IRISH SEA
Dalkey Island Foreshore Application

Providence are currently seeking a Foreshore Licence to further explore the potential of an oil or gas prospect circa 6km off the coast of Dublin in an area known as the ‘Kish Bank Basin’. The specific prospect is known as ‘Dalkey Island’ and previous seismic studies and exploration drilling have indicated the possibility of oil or gas reserves.
The Foreshore Licence application is the most recent development in an interest which began in August 2008, when Providence and Star Energy Oil and Gas Ltd. (Star) were awarded a three-year Licence Option by the Irish Government for exploration over eight ‘blocks’ in the Kish Bank Basin. Further exploration is now required to establish whether oil or gas is present and, if so, whether it exists in commercial quantities.
The Foreshore Licence being sought would allow the partnership to undertake a seismic survey, a site survey and drill an exploration well to investigate whether oil and/or gas is present. Should the Licence be awarded, the initial activity of site and seismic surveys would likely take in the region of 15 days, followed by 30 to 60 days for drilling. Both of these operations are planned to take place in 2012, within a six month period of each other.
On this webpage, you can download a Project Newsletter and a Non Technical Summary which provide further information on the application and the licensing process. You can also download all of the licence application documents which have been submitted to the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government in respect of Dalkey Island.
Providence have also produced a number of photographic representations of how the rig would appear on the horizon from the shore and a ‘Google Earth’ tour, which shows the location of the rig offshore Dublin. Enquiries can also be made directly to us by email.
